  • This ocean is located around the North Pole.
  • This is the smallest, coldest, and most shallow of all the oceans.
  • It use to be known as the Frozen Ocean as it’s covered with ice most of the year.
  • The Arctic Ocean is 8% the size of the Pacific Ocean.
  • 10,000-50,000 iceburgs are produced in this ocean yearly.
  • The temperature of this water varies from -30 to -70 degrees Celsius.

    Just thanks to the author of this article. I actually forgot the name of all 5 oceans. And can remember after reading this article. We really can not keep in mind some common thing due to daily work.

    I always knew there where 5 oceans. But Southern Ocean??? Isn’t that like the Antarctic Ocean?????

      There is no such thing as the Antarctic Ocean, you must be referring to the Arctic Ocean.

    OK, the facts are interesting, but let’s be honest. This is just a current best guess scenario based on the interpretation of the evidence they have. Accuracy builds credibility, but unverifiable claims like this spoken as if they were known to be factually true does the opposite.

    So when they say things like this right along with the other verifiable facts they gave – as if somehow this has been proven and can be verified, they lose credibility in my book. At the very least they should say “Life in the ocean is thought to have begun 3.1 – 3.4 billion years ago.”

      “90% of all Volcanic activity takes place underwater, on the ocean floor.” I’m not quite sure where you saw that other quote-I couldn’t find it to fix it.

    Glad to learn some informative views regarding oceans!! Indian ocean is the one every year I used to see but really don’t know about vast information as I’ve learned through reading from here.
